Dreams become reality

I remember a movie I believe was made in the 1960s, or possibly 1970s, but can not remember the title.
I vaguely remember that an individual would dream about something, and when he woke up the next day, the world would have changed to fit his dream.
In one sequence I believe that he dreams that predudices umong people no longer exist, and when he wakes the next day, all the people have changed to have a greyish skin tone.
((The film <may> have had a sequence near the end where the main character is walking in semi darkness, but is surrounded by what looks like a laser fog tunnel - If you have ever seen what happens when a laser is projected in a circle into a room filled with fog, you will understand the effect.)) Its been about 20 years since I last saw it, and have been wondering what the movie was called.

I believe you are thinking of The Lathe of Heaven. I think it was remade a few years ago, too.
